The codimension-one cohomology of SLnZ
We prove that H( n 2)(SLn Z;Q) = 0, where ( n 2 ) is the cohomological dimension of SLn Z, and similarly for GLn Z. We also prove analogous vanishing theorems for cohomology with coefficients in a rational representation of the algebraic group GLn. These theorems are derived from a presentation of the Steinberg module for SLn Z whose generators are integral apartment classes, generalizing Manin...
متن کاملDegree 4 unramified cohomology with finite coefficients and torsion codimension 3 cycles
Let X be a smooth complex projective variety and A an abelian group. Degree i unramified cohomology H i nr(X,A) of X with coefficients in A can be defined as the direct limit of the sets of data αk ∈ H i B(Uk, A), αk|Uk∩Ul = αl|Uk∩Ul , where the Uk’s are sufficiently small Zariski open sets covering X. Here the notation H i B stands for Betti cohomology of the underlying complex analytic space....
متن کاملVanishing of Cohomology over Gorenstein Rings of Small Codimension
We prove that if M , N are finite modules over a Gorenstein local ring R of codimension at most 4, then the vanishing of Ext R (M,N) for n ≫ 0 is equivalent to the vanishing of Ext R (N,M) for n ≫ 0. Furthermore, if b R has no embedded deformation, then such vanishing occurs if and only if M or N has finite projective dimension.
متن کاملCohomology groups for projection tilings of codimension 2
The gap-labelling group, which provides the set of possible values of the integrated density of states on gaps in the spectrum of a Hamiltonian describing particles in a tiling, is frequently related to the cohomology of the tiling. We present explicit results for the cohomology of many well-known tilings obtained from the cut and projection method with codimension 2, including the (generalized...
متن کاملRelative Cohomology of Banach Algebras
Let A be a Banach algebra, not necessarily unital, and let B be a closed subalgebra of A. We establish a connection between the Banach cyclic cohomology group HC(A) of A and the Banach B-relative cyclic cohomology group HCnB(A) of A. We prove that, for a Banach algebra A with a bounded approximate identity and an amenable closed subalgebra B of A, up to topological isomorphism, HC(A) = HCnB(A) ...
